There are countless decks in Clash Royale, but most fall into one of a few basic archetypes. Knowing which archetype your deck belongs to tells you how to play the match and which opponents will give you trouble.
Beatdown decks build one heavy push by adding strong support troops behind a big, durable tank (Golem, Lava Hound, Giant, Electro Giant). They usually start the tank behind their own tower and add cards behind it until it reaches the bridge.
Cycle decks are made of very cheap cards and cycle their win condition (usually Hog Rider) faster than the opponent can cycle their defense. They win with steady chip damage rather than big pushes.
Control decks defend first, then build damage with small, safe attacks. They chip the tower steadily with cards like Miner and Graveyard and win long matches through solid defense and elixir advantage.
Siege decks use buildings like X-Bow or Mortar that fire at the enemy tower from their own side. The rest of the deck is there to protect the building.
Bait decks carry several cards that can be answered by the same spell. When the opponent spends that spell on one, the others go free. The best-known example is Log Bait, which runs Goblin Barrel, Princess and Goblin Gang together.
Bridge spam decks send fast, mid-cost cards (Battle Ram, Bandit, Royal Ghost, Royal Hogs) over the bridge one after another to catch the opponent off guard. They're usually paired with a strong defensive card such as P.E.K.K.A.
The right archetype depends on your play style and your cards. If you're patient and like defending, try control or siege; if you like thinking fast and applying constant pressure, try cycle; if you like building big pushes, beatdown may suit you. But the biggest factor is often your card levels: starting with the archetype that fits your strongest cards gives the fastest results.
